Nick Winkelman - The Language of Coaching 2 day Workshop

Join us for a 2 day workshop with Irish Rugby Head of Performance, Nick Winkelman PHD, who takes us through his Language of Coaching course.

Course Description

As coaches, we understand the importance of having sound training methods that live within an integrated training system. We also know that the quality of this system will have a direct influence on the development of targeted physical qualities within our athletes. However, how many of us can say that we have developed a similar system in relation to the way we approach coaching and teaching movement? This question sets the stage for our course – The Language of Coaching – Official Workshop. In this course, you will learn about coaching models that create the basis for a comprehensive coaching system. These models will focus on how we communicate through cueing, instruction, and feedback, how we co-design the learning environment with our athletes to drive sustainable learning and performance, and how we can systematically improve our coaching practice over time. Through interactive presentations and skill building sessions, you will learn how to apply these coaching models within your environment and shape your teaching around the needs of your athletes.

Objectives/Outcomes

  1. Coaches will learn the science underpinning the design of learning environments
  2. Coaches will learn how to breakdown and prioritize a technical model for their sport

  4. Coaches will learn the theory and practice around effective application of analogies
  5. Coaches will learn the theory and practice around co-designing the focus the athlete adopts
  6. Coaches will learn the theory and practice around on-going coach development
